1st night out we stayed at the $50,000 saloon in
Haugan MT, this is a free boon docking spot. They were full , mostly of bubbas
who had ATVs. There were fireworks being shot off in the area, so the animals
were thrills. The 2nd night out we found a lovely/quiet spot on the
Yellowstone River near Greycliff, MT, thanks
to directions and recommendations from our friends John and Helen. While
Judy and Callie were enjoying the river’s edge, Susan went to check out the
Fish and Wildlife pit toilet. This is a metal structure with a single seat.
When Susan was ready to exit, she found she was locked in. The lock release
wouldn’t operate. She started banging on the metal door. Judy and Callie as well as another lady who
was down near the water fishing with her 3 big dogs responded to the noise. She was the only other person in the area. After
5 minutes or so of trying to get the door open, we decided to call 911. I
brought our portable fan and held it up to the vent for some additional air. It
had to be at least 105 degrees inside and Susan was afraid of heat stroke. It
took some time for the 1st deputy sheriff to arrive but after a
quick assessment, he called for back-up and then proceeded to remove the vent
plate with a crowbar he had found. (Not the standard issued equipment.) After
great effort he got it off and climbed inside with Susan. His reaction was “boy
is it hot in here”. With the vent off, we could hand her cold water and the
fan. In the meantime, another deputy, 2
fire trucks and an ambulance showed up. One of the fire truck drivers was a
locksmith and he quickly removed the malfunctioning lock and got Susan out. She
was a little dehydrated and the ambulance crew wanted her to cool off inside
the ambulance as well as to check her out. She was in the hot box for about 30
minutes total. After a 15 minute stay in the ambulance, she was released. While
Susan was in the hot box, she wondered, what would MacGyver do?
The trip is already proving to be exciting!
