Crystal River Florida

First stop after Jacksonville is Crystal River to visit with friends from Sedona AZ and see the manatees.

This is the boat we're taking upriver to the Manatee Wildlife Refuge Park

Nell and Joni, our shipmates

How many turtles can you see?

These folks are returning from the park

This is one of the viewing areas with an underwater observatory for viewing the manatees and fish

The manatees get romaine lettuce, not iceberg. Each manatee eats a little over a crate of lettuce a day.

Lu just turned 57 years old. In the wild a hippopotamus lives for 40-50 years. In captivity they are know to live to 60. Lu is aging gracefully.

Some of the animals and birds are in the refuge due to injury or inability to be released into the wild. Other birds can come and go as they please.
