Mason City is a great little town with plenty to see and do. This was our second stay here and we would certainly come back again.
This is the Dr. G.C. Stockman's family home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1908. Many years later it was saved from demolition by a group of Mason City volunteers and moved to it's current location.
The Historic Park Inn Hotel and City National Bank designed in the Prairie School style by Frank Lloyd Wright, completed in 1910. The history of this building is fascinating. See Wikipedia for the story.
The square adjoining the Park Inn Hotel.
This sculpture is title "American Architect", we think it's Frank Lloyd Wright. He's in Central Park looking at the hotel.
This is a portion of Mason City Central Park.
Mason City has Sculptures on parade. There are 54 located throughout the city along a 1.7 mile route which can easily be walked. Some of these are for sale and some are permanent installations. These are some of our favorites.
"Mr. Eggwards"
"Raven's Voyage"
"Ralph Moose"
"Arc of Peace"
"What Does The Nose Know?"
"Dreamer"
"For The Love Of The Game"
"Busted" and "Natural Instinct"
Time for dinner at a nearly 100 year old restaurant, the Northwest Steakhouse. This place is so popular one must arrive a half hour before opening to get a table. So we did.
These are the best steaks we've ever had. And we had great leftovers.
