Had a wonderful visit with the cousins in Provincetown, but now off to Plymouth.

The Rock is in the portico

Historians say the Mayflower Pilgrims’ stepped on the rock after they rowed ashore from the Mayflower on Dec. 21, 1620 (first landing in the New World in Provincetown, in November 1620). The rock lay unnoticed for 121 years. In 1775 the rock split as it was being raised from its bed by oxen. The upper part was hauled to Town Square and the remainder left on the waterfront. The rock stayed in Town Square until 1834 when it was moved to the front lawn of Pilgrim Hall. In 1880 the part from Pilgrim Hall was returned to the waterfront and the two parts were cemented together. (Makes me wonder what kind of a cement job was done in 1880.) The granite portico was erected over the historic site in 1921.

Since we walked the cemetery at our last visit we didn't this time. Very interesting place to roam.

Wellfleet Massachusetts

Wellfleet is located on the narrowest part of Cape Cod located halfway between the "tip" and "elbow" of Cape Cod. Wellfleet is famous for its eponymous oysters, which are celebrated in the annual October Wellfleet OysterFest. We spent the afternoon shopping followed by an ice cream.

Their windows are the sign board for what they have at the only grocery in Wellfleet.

Callie could not decide on a new floatie so will have to use her old one when she gets home. Can't wait to play in the Mighty Columbia.

A Day in Provincetown MA

The Pilgrim Monument is the centerpiece of the town.
It was founded in 1892. Its purpose is to commemorate the Mayflower Pilgrims’ first landing in the New World in Provincetown, in November 1620. Here the Pilgrims spent 5 weeks exploring the tip of Cape Cod, before they sailed on to Plymouth. They also drew up and signed the Mayflower Compact, which established the rule of law for the new land.

Lovely Victorian/Cape Cod style houses

Historic Days Cottages from the 1930s. All names for flowers (22 cottages).

Provincetown Massachuetts

Our next destination was Cape Cod Massachusetts. We spent several delightful days with Susan’s cousins Molly and Sally. We were here over the Labor Day holiday so Provincetown was wild and packed with tourists.

Lunch with the cousins. Another delightful feast!
