Oops, out of order posting

Wednesday, Aug 6th:  John and Helen took us to Winterset to see the bridges of Madison County and John Wayne’s birth home. Our first stop was the Chamber of Commerce who provided us with useful maps of the area, showing the 6 remaining covered bridges (out of 20).  2 of these bridges were featured in the movie “Bridges of Madison County”. Susan was heartbroken to find out that Francesca was a fictional character.

Francesca's house from the movie, has been closed for tours and the current owner is letting it fall apart. So sad.
Cedar Covered Bridge, this is the bridge featured on the cover of the novel "The Bridges of Madison County".

  1. How fun! Hey, if you come back through North Dakota and are up for a side adventure, check out Maple River Winery! It's different and a bit unexpected, but a nice stop and fun people! They're in Casselton, ND the eastern part. (http://www.mapleriverwinery.com/) And then west of that a ways is Assumption Abbey in Richardton, ND.. Ya, I know ... wine and Catholic worship spaces! ;o)
